Dr. Allan Okrainec, MDCM, MHPE, FRCSC, FACS

 

Dr. Okrainec completed medical school at McGill University and residency in General Surgery at McMaster University. He went on to complete a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at McGill University.  Dr. Okrainec also completed a Master’s Degree in Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His clinical practice specializes in minimally invasive upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery.

Dr. Okrainec is widely recognized for his pioneering work in telesimulation for the remote training and assessment of laparoscopic surgical skills around the world.  His academic interests include studying advances in minimally invasive surgical techniques and technologies, including clinical outcomes and novel educational approaches for training new surgical skills.  

He the Surgical Director of the Temerty Advanced Surgical Education and Simulation Centre in the Michener Institute of Education at UHN, and also serves as the Surgical Lead for Planning and Infrastructure at UHN.  He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.
