Maternal, fetal and infant outcomes associated with bariatric surgery: a population-based, matched cohort study

Dr. Aristithes Gerard Doumouras, MD, MPH

Dr. Doumouras is a staff surgeon in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and an Assistant Professor at McMaster University. He obtained his MD from Queens University and completed general surgery training at McMaster. During residency, Dr. Doumouras was awarded the Juravinski Fellowship from the McMaster Department of Surgery as well as a Knox Fellowship from Harvard University to pursue graduate studies at Harvard where he obtained a Master of Public Health degree with a focus on Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Doumouras is the Research Lead for the Ontario Bariatric Network and is heading multiple studies in Canada, including large clinical trials. To date, he has published more than 90 papers, with a track record of being published in high-impact journals. Dr. Doumouras research interests include: long-term outcomes after bariatric surgery, bariatric surgery and composition of the gut microbiome, and GLP-1 agonist use before bariatric surgery.
