Message from the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Spring is right around the corner and with that comes a sense of excitement, newness, and growth. It is with great pleasure as the President of the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons (CABPS) that I invite you to attend our annual conference, Canadian Obesity Weekend.

Things appear to be settling down from COVID and we finally can experience things with a sense of newness and excitement. Our annual conference was virtual for the last two years. This year, we look forward to seeing each and every one of you in person at the Marriott Downtown Toronto Eaton Centre on May 4-6, 2023, in Toronto, Ontario. Each year, our Conference turns out to exceed our greatest expectations and I am confident that this year's conference will be the best yet.

The program promises to be informative and enlightening. We have both local, national, and international speakers. Our conference will be discussing topics on the cutting edge of obesity management such as weight regain, fundamentals of mini gastric bypass, adolescents and obesity, the importance of BMI and genetics in obesity and controversies that arise in patient management.  Our breakout sessions aim to address all your educational interests.  An essential component of this year's conference is advocacy for the care of those living with overweight and obesity and continue to address weight bias and stigma. We expect to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the weekend.

To complement your learning experience, we are planning several social events, including a Wine and Cheese Reception, a Pub Night, and our Exhibit Hall, where you can congregate with friends and colleagues to catch up on each one's latest and greatest news. We will remain active on Twitter, so follow us closely using the hashtag #CABPS2023.

This year we will be honouring Dr. Picard Marceau with the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons’ Distinguished Service Award, and it is my hope that you will join me in acknowledging and congratulating him for his outstanding contributions to the care of people living with obesity and to this discipline.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference, reminiscing/networking in the Exhibit Hall and having a great time!

With warm regards,

CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF BARIATRIC PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS
